Super Simple Sweet Sunday Sketch

Wow, that title is a bit of a tongue twister!  This is Karen Giron's Sweet Sunday Sketch (SSSC110) and I decided to make it a Christmas card.  It really was super fast to make.  I was going to sew but realized that I'd have to change the bobbin and the thread and that was all a bit too much for me today :)
All the papers are from Stampin' Up: Very Vanilla, Early Espresso, Garden Green, Real Red and some retired Designer Series Paper.  The stamp is Swirly Hills With Trees from Stamping Bella.  I only used four copics so didn't bother to photograph them.  YR12 for the star, YG93 and YG95 for the trees and E35 for the tree trunks.  I tried and tried and tried to get the bow on the button perfect like Joanne does, but I clearly need more practice :)  A little glitter in the sky and on the snowy hills finished it off.  I can see making more of these because it came together so quickly and I like to use up a full 12 x 12 sheet - leftover scraps make me a little crazy!

"Sew" Happy for Mary

My friend, Mary, is retiring for the 2nd time :) and though I am sorry to see Mary go, I know she'll be happy to be able to sleep in every morning!  I used this week's MFT sketch (MFTWSC12) for Mary's card and I had a happy accident making it.  I had coloured a Maya Road Blossom with the RV06 copic but it was incredibly bright and neon-ish so I tossed it aside, where it landed upside down on my desk.  I looked back at it a few minutes later and the flip side was the perfect colour!
I added a turquoise mini rolled rose and a couple of rhinestones along the open scallop border.  I paper pieced her top and her pants, added a touch of glitter to the little flower on her top and she was done.  This little gal from MFT Being Cute Is What I Do is one of my favourite and I cannot seem to colour her clothes....I HAVE to paper piece them!
I decided to make a second card, as I still had all the supplies out so I made this a square card because I had a BIG flower to use.  I promised Karen I would get out my new Janome Sew Mini machine today.  Why was I so afraid of it?!  It's "sew" easy...sorry :) .  I have to admit I'm pretty happy with myself.  I didn't have Karen beside me but I had detailed notes from her and I'm really happy with my zig-zag sewing!  I used a Stampin' Up scallop border and some TE tiny twinkles, and the BIG flower, which I'm now thinking might be tooooo big for this card but it's already stuck down and "once it's stuck, you're out of luck".

Stephanie's Bella-Birthday

This card came together SO fast, I can still barely believe it!  Dana sent me a card a few years ago with this layout and because I keep all my handmade cards, it's easy to look in the box for inspiration or CASEing :) .
I had put Dana's card out on my desk with the papers and the image to make Stephanie's card.  Well, as happens in my life....one day, two days, three days went by and I realized I had better make her card or else she wasn't going to get it in time.  Fortunately, as I said, I had all the elements ready so got down to work and in under an hour it was done!  It's funny because "non-cardmakers" often ask me how long it takes to make a card and I can never really give an answer but when you're copying a super card (thanks Dana) it's easy!

I used SU So Saffron, Rose Red, Tempting Turquoise, Whisper White and some old Designer Series Paper.  A couple of Prima flowers, a Bella Dot and of course, glitter, some sponging around the edge of the nestie to soften it and Cuppacakeabella was done!  I coloured her with Copics but forgot to take the copic photo - oops.  Happy Birthday Steph!

My Friend Karen

My friend Karen has a beautiful blog and she is a beautiful stamper.  Karen had a brilliant idea a couple of years ago to make one Christmas card per week throughout the year so when December rolled around she wasn't stressed out trying to make all her cards in a week :).  I have long admired her idea, but until recently didn't have the time to commit to this.  I know we're three months into 2011 but here's a little secret.....I have 15 Christmas cards already made for this year so I actually think I'm ahead - LOL.

This little fellow is super cute, or should I say super 'cool'?!  He comes in a set called "Cool Yule" from MFT that has 4 other images and 3 sentiments which are perfect for the set.  I coloured him with copics, paper pieced his toque and scarf and the rest of it came together really quickly.  Just a bit of sparkly patterned paper (sorry can't remember the name as it was just a leftover scrap), a ghost snowflake, a bonbon and of course, glitter for his toque trim.  If my math is correct, this makes Christmas Card #16 for me but who's competing.....I mean counting?! :)  Stay tuned for more of my Christmas cards.

Three for three

With a push from cheering followers (okay, slight exaggeration) I've managed to post my third card in three days.  This blogging thing is exhausting :)

I used my leftover scraps from yesterday's card, a sweet mulberry paper mini rose beside the sentiment from the TE "Beary Special" set because I'm not sure who I'm sending this to yet.  The image is an Elzybells which sadly is no longer in business.  A couple of layers of clear glaze pen on the puddles, some TE tiny twinkles and I tried to make her coat look like it had some texture by drawing stripes with my 0 Copic.

Not sure you'll be able to see it but it looks pretty good in real life.  Well, Sunday dinner (stew) smells delish and is almost ready, so that's it for me this weekend!

Hi, it's me...

I know, I know, two posts in two days - shocking but what can I say - I am LOVING the sketches.  This is the MFT Wednesday Stamp Club sketch #11 and I was a little intimidated by it at first but I'm pleased with how it turned out.  I loved what Wendy did with the piece of vellum on her card and I shamelessly CASEd it (thanks Wendy).

I used "Heart Stripes" from MFT 'cause she's so cute and I adore the "Hi, it's me..." sentiment that comes with her.  I coloured her with copics, paper pieced her jumper and pockets, added some TE tiny twinkles,  Bella dots, popped her up for some dimension and that was it. I'd like to be able to tell you the paper I used but it was just a few pieces left in my scrap bin.

Well that's it for me, two posts in two days.  Hmm, wonder if I can go for three? :)

Fabulous Friday Fun

It's Bellariffic Friday again and I was able to combine TWO challenges in one card - I like when that happens!  The sketch is the Bellariffic Friday challenge (my friend Dana designed the sketch).  It was a super easy sketch and it worked perfectly with my friend Joanne's Blogaversary challenge - I like when that happens too!  The three elements I used were: 1) kraft paper 2) pink, ivory and orange colour combo  3) twine.  Confession time: my ivory paper was actually white, but I sponged it with a bit of cream ink to tone it down and I don't think you'd have ever known it was white.......well you do now I've spilled the beans :)

I used "Tutuface" from Stamping Bella, followed Dana's sketch, Joanne's Blogaversary challenge, a little glitter on her tutu because all tutus should be sparkly and voila - card done!

Bellariffic Friday - Easter

It's Bellariffic Friday and the theme for today was Easter.  I love all the Huggabuggs so it was an easy choice to use the sweet little "Cracked Up" Huggabugg from Stamping Bella.  For the cardstock I used lovely spring colours from Stampin' Up (Certainly Celery, So Saffron, Lavendar Lace), their lace scallop border bunch, Swiss dots embossing folder and of course some glitter on her wings and a teeny, tiny little twinkle in the centre of the flowers finished it off.  I didn't use copics this time - went back to my pencil crayons and gamsol and I like the softer effect it gives.

This card came together pretty quickly and I was pleased to find the perfect piece of ribbon - dotted to match the Swiss dots!  I like when things match :)

My friend, Dana, and I used the same image and we didn't even know it.  Check out her super sweet card here.

Engaged......finally!

I LOVE this card!  Can I say that about a card I made myself? :)

It's for my dear friend Lindsay and Tyler who recently got engaged.  Well "recently" as in last summer and I've finally made their card!  I stressed about it.  It had to be perfect.  Not just any card would do.

I used Karen Giron's Sweet Sunday Sketch (SSSC106), borrowed Karen's MFT A la mode Cheers stamp and it all came together beautifully.  I used some Basic Grey patterned paper, copics, the gorgeous lacey circle nestie, some little pearls and some stickles for her sparkly dress.

It's fun when you have a stamping friend who has lots of lovely things so I borrowed from Karen again and used her fab MFT Rosette & Rolled Rose dies for that gorgeous felt flower.

I gave it to Lindsay and she freaked....in a good way!  I hear she's even getting a shadow box to put it in so no sticky fingers touch it. :)
